Terms of service

Effective September 23, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Michael Wilson (“MealBright”, “we”, “us”) for using the MealBright app, the website version, and mealbright.app (together, “MealBright”). By creating an account or using MealBright, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

1. Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to use MealBright.
• Give a real email address, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You’re responsible for what happens in your account.
• One person per account. Share recipes with family by inviting them to your household, not by sharing your sign-in.

2. Households

A household shares its recipes, meal plan, and grocery lists. Anyone you invite can see and change the household’s content, and anyone holding a valid invite link can join. Members can remove other members. Only invite people you trust. If you leave or delete your account, what you added stays with the household (see the Privacy Policy).

3. Your content

• You own what you put in MealBright: your recipes, notes, photos, and lists.
• You give us permission to store, copy, process, and show your content only as needed to run MealBright for you and your household. That covers things like making smaller copies of photos, syncing lists, and sending a recipe to the AI service when you ask for an AI feature. This permission ends when you delete the content, apart from copies in backups until they expire.
• Only add content you have the right to use. Recipes and photos you import from other websites or apps are for your household’s personal use, and you’re responsible for respecting their owners’ rights. MealBright keeps a link back to where an imported recipe came from.
• We don’t claim ownership of your content and don’t use it for advertising.

4. Acceptable use

Don’t use MealBright to:

• break the law or anyone’s rights, including copyright;
• upload anything harmful, hateful, sexual, or malicious, including viruses;
• try to get into other households or accounts, or around our security or limits;
• overload our servers, scrape, or use automated tools, apart from our own features;
• resell MealBright or use it to run a commercial recipe service.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. For anything other than serious or repeated problems, we’ll warn you first.

5. AI features

Some optional features use AI (currently Google’s Gemini) to write descriptions, suggest cleanups, read recipes from pages and photos, and make recipe pictures.AI can be wrong. Check its suggestions before you save them, especially quantities, cooking temperatures and times, and allergens. AI features have monthly limits and may change or be turned off.

6. Food, nutrition, and allergies

MealBright helps you organize recipes. It isn’t a source of medical, dietary, or food-safety advice. Nutrition information comes from the recipe’s source or is estimated, and may be incomplete or wrong. Always check ingredients and labels for allergens, and follow safe food handling and cooking temperatures. You cook at your own risk.

7. Mealime

MealBright isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Mealime. Our free Save button runs in your own browser and saves your Mealime data to a file on your device, and we never see your Mealime password. Importing depends on what Mealime makes available, which may change or end (Mealime has said it will shut down on October 21, 2026). We can’t guarantee every recipe or photo will import.

8. Paid plans

MealBright has a free plan with no time limit and no card. It covers unlimited recipes, photos, notes, tags and ratings, planning this week and next, a grocery list, and cook mode.

MealBright Plus is $3.99 a month for the whole household, or$39.99 a year, with the first 30 days free. It adds everyone at home on their own phone, your full planning and cooking history, copying and rolling over weeks, planning further ahead, a grocery list per store, collections, and the AI features.

Subscriptions bought in the iPhone app are bought through Apple, and Apple’s terms apply to payment, renewal, cancellation, and refunds. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel yours in Settings, then your Apple Account, then Subscriptions. If we change a price, we’ll tell you in advance and you can cancel before it applies.

9. Changes and availability

We’re a small team and will keep improving MealBright, which means features may change, and MealBright may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or problems. We’ll try hard to keep your data safe and give you notice before removing major features. If we ever shut MealBright down, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice and a way to download your data.

10. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings, then Your data, then Delete my account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms (section 4). Sections 3 (the part about your responsibility for content), 6, 11, and 13 continue to apply after an account ends.

11. Disclaimers and limits of liability

• MealBright is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don’t promise it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that no data will ever be lost. Please keep your own export of anything important.
• To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or lost data or profits. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us for MealBright in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50.
• Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing here limits rights you have by law that can’t be waived.

12. The App Store

If you got MealBright from Apple’s App Store:

• These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for MealBright and its content, maintenance, and support, and for any claims about it, including product, legal, and intellectual property claims.
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If MealBright doesn’t meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
• You confirm you’re not in a country under a US government embargo or on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

13. Disputes and governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah and the United States, except where your local consumer law says otherwise. Please contact us first, because most problems can be solved by email.

14. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we’ll update the date at the top. For important changes we’ll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Using MealBright after that means you accept the new terms. If you don’t, you can delete your account.
